CHAPTER 21: Bedtime!

"Time for bed," Lucas announces as he turns off the T.V.

"Aw come on! It was getting good!" Charity exclaims.

"Off the couch!" he heaves off the bed then lifts Charity up before throwing her over his shoulder.

"No!" she yells as she tries to pull herself off of his shoulder. "Let me down already!"

Lucas chuckles under his breath as she tries to pry herself off of his shoulder, but he has his around her waist and clamping her legs together to keep her from kicking. She eventually gives up when they go up the stairs and taps her fingers on the small of his back.

"I swear if I were a man this would be so much easier to get out of," she huffs.

"Even if you were a guy you wouldn't beat me anyways," he smirks.

"I used to be able to beat you before puberty hit you . . ." she pouts.

"That's because you're freakishly strong for a girl your size." He tosses her on his bed before getting his pajamas to change into in the bathroom.

"Dude it's not like I've never seen you change in front of me," she starts and picks her back from the corner of his bed.

Lucas blushes and scratches his head. "Yeah, but—" He stops himself. What he already said is already a good enough hint. Sure, he's seen her change too with her back to him, but that was before he realized his feelings for her. That was when she was ten, a little before her body hit puberty. And it's not like he didn't notice the small changes. But for Christ sake they're fifteen. He stops himself from thinking any further of Charity and goes out. "I'll start the shower for you," he calls.

     "Kay!" she calls back.

Lucas sighs and quickly changes before turning the shower on. He should just dodge Charity and sleep on the couch downstairs. Knowing Charity she's probably going to fight him for the couch. She would say it would be fair if she slept on his couch since he slept on hers last weekend.

He finishes up goes out to his room. "All yours," he says without looking to her.

"Thanks!" She immediately goes into the rest room and jumps into the shower.

Lucas collects his pillow and a comforter from his closet. Lucas remembers a time before he fell in love with her that they would sleep in the same bed and sometimes wake up holding hands. But they can't do that . . . they're too old for that. As much as he wants to, but who knows if he'll try to put his moves on her again.

He shakes his head and looks for another blanket large enough to use to cover the couch as a sheet. He hears Charity come into the room. "You're not gonna sleep on your bed?" Charity asks. She has a towel over her shoulder to keep her dripping wet hair from dampening her back.

"I'm the host so you get to sleep on my bed."

"Nah uh! You already did this last time! I practically live here too you know. I'll sleep on the couch this time." Just like he predicted. "So I'll take those," she starts and goes for the pillow and comforter. Lucas backs away with a playful smile creeping on his face. "Oh we're gonna do this again," she smiles as she cracks her knuckles and readies herself to wrestle him down.

"You know you're going to lose," he smiles. "I am stronger than you after all."

"Yes, but you said I'm tiny, so I'll be able to dodge you easily," she says and pops her shoulder and stretches her legs. She hopes she'll tire him out after dodging him a while then take him down when he runs out of stamina.

"Only if you're fast," he smirks. Charity moves first, but Lucas reads her moves and bends down and grabs her from around her waist with one arm. "Too bad for you since you have slow reflexes. Now go to bed!" he laughs at the feisty Charity and puts her back on his bed.

     "I want a rematch!"

"You lost seconds after it started."

     "I wasn't well prepared! Rematch!"

     "No."

     "Come on!"

"Goodnight Charity." But Charity jumps on his back and headlocks him. "Ow! Dammit! Charity! Let go!" he growls as he pulls her arms off with some difficulty.

     "Give me the couch then!"

"Kids! Keep it down! Do you have any idea how late it is!? Go to sleep!" Lucas' dad exclaims from downstairs.

Lucas and Charity stop struggling and stands in the middle of the room for a while giggling. "Sorry!" they say at the same time. Charity still clings onto his back like a baby koala on its mother's back and Lucas sighs. "Get some sleep Charity," he says.

"Why not we sleep in here tonight. I'll take the floor."

"You're taking the bed," he growls in annoyance.

Charity sighs and releases her hold on Lucas. "There is another solution, but it would probably make your head explode," she says shyly and jumps back into bed and under the covers. Lucas notices that her cheeks are bright red, he stares at her curiously. "Since most likely we'll be fighting on who gets the floor or couch, the only other solution that would please the both of us is if we share the same bed," she mumbles the last few words.

Lucas widens his eyes and blushes as red as Charity. He scratches the back of his head shyly. "You're sure?"

"It's not like we're going to do anything. Just two friends . . . sleeping in the same bed together," she says quietly.

Yeah . . . two friends, one of whom is madly in love with the other friend, Lucas thinks to himself. Charity is thinking like a naïve child, but by the looks on her face she knows this usually isn't okay for teenagers of the opposite sex to be doing. And since she's aware of his feelings for her, she's even more embarrassed. "You're not teasing me are you?"

"I'm being honest. I'm really trying not to. But this is the only solution I can think of that won't end up becoming a heated debate." She takes his body pillow from and puts it next to her basically making a wall for them, even though she knows it won't completely block them. "Now we should get some sleep."

Lucas sighs in defeat and hesitantly gets in bed with Charity. Charity turns around facing the wall while Lucas gets himself comfortable. He looks to her for a moment, blushing then turns his lamp light off. "This is really the best solution you can think of?" Lucas asks her.

     Charity nods.

It was the only solution he could think of as well. He stares at Charity, keeping himself from gently brushing his fingertips against her skin and pulling her damp hair away from her face. But those would probably make her feel uncomfortable and he's far into the friend zone to be doing any of that stuff.

He has the love of his life in his bed. And he can't even touch her the way he wants to touch her. So close . . . yet so far away.
THE PICTURE IS NOT MINE!! I just found it online that really suit the plot of the story and thought I could use it. LIKE I SAID!! NOT MINE!!

Another chapter! Yeah it's easier to read since there's less long paragraphs and more dialect! I'm also finally comfortable writing about these characters. I toned down Lucas' girly like qualities and toned down on him laughing all the time like in other chapters.

Jeez, Charity keeps giving out hints that she likes him more than a friend, but doesn't say it aloud...honestly, what's her problem?

I mean really...what's her excuse for torturing Lucas like that?
She already knows how he feels...so there's little to no risk of getting rejected if she tells him, she likes him.

And things are getting awkward again between them...

That said: Two teenagers in one bed and nothing happening? There's definitely something going wrong there :P

Ah well, I'm curious to see, how they'll wake up ;)
